BrandWatch Technologies Security Taggants Determined Safe for Food Contact
October 7, 2004

BrandWatch Technologies(formally known as Stardust Technologies), announced today that it has passed stringent FDA biocompatibility testing for direct food contact. BrandWatch produces covert security taggant products which can be incorporated into coatings and adhesives for packaging.

Paul Hartsock, CEO of Stardust Technologies (now named BrandWatch Technologies), believes there are significant opportunities for growth of security taggants in pharmaceutical and food packaging. “Our recent ISO approval for biocompatibility paves the way for entry into injection molded medical devices,” he stated. “Now we have positive test results for use in pharmaceutical applications such as induction seals on bottles. We can design a robust authentication feature on the inside of a primary package that can be detected without having to remove the cap. Food contact approval is just one more indicator of our flexibility. There aren’t many ways in which we can’t be incorporated into packaging.”

Stardust’s primary technology consists of photoluminescent taggant materials which absorb invisible infrared light from a detector and emit visible light. Stardust Technologies, Inc. is located in Bellevue, Washington, and provides brand owners security solutions based on covert taggants and other technologies. Recently certified by the North American Security Products Organization (NASPO), Stardust Technologies is an industry leader in the fight to protect goods from fraud.

Technical Note: The laboratory testing Stardust passed for use in coatings and adhesives is: FDA Code of Federal Regulations, Title 21, Volume 3, Part 175 (21CFR 175.300).
